KELCEY ANYÁ'S BOOK CLUB
Oprah's bookclub has always been one of my greatest inspirations, so I started my own. Enjoy a few of my faves.
MORE THAN ENOUGH: ELAINE WELTHEROTH
This book changed my life. I'm not even being dramatic. This book is the the book that I needed going into this new journey in my life. I moved in NYC in July 2019 and began this book just before my move, finishing it after the move. Elaine gives us truth, transparency, some good laughs and loads of Black Girl Magic in this beautifully crafted and written autobiographical novel. I have been inspired by her journey, her tenacity and her boldness (and albeit stupidity at times). It's hard for me to put in to words just how much I NEEDED this book in this season. For any woman who is out there pursuing their dreams, this book comes HIGHLY recommended!
BECOMING: MICHELLE OBAMA
Did y'all ever thing it was possible to love our forever First Lady any more than we already do?! Yeah, me either, but her book; Becoming did just that. I fell more in love with her as she brings us in to the depths of her past, the rawness of her experiences as FLOTUS, keeping it all the way TWO HUNNED all while serving us some serious Black Girl Realness! This book is life changing and highly recommended; especially for our young sisters. Be encouraged!
THE HATE U GIVE: ANGIE THOMAS
Angie Thomas' provocative telling of police brutality, the community it impacts and the burdens we as Black people so often carry is raw, it's emotional, it's poignant, it's timely and it's necessary. It's a tough read, but am important one.
BLACK GIRLS ROCK!: BEVERLY BON
One of the best recommendations that I've read in a while. Beverly Bond combines all of our favorite Black Queens from Shonda Rhimes to Michelle Obama to our favorite bad girl Rihanna in this beautiful complication of Black Girl Magic. I highly recommend the audiobook for this one. Hearing Auntie Michelle deliver her speech feels like she's hanging with you in your car or living room.
THE EMPRESS HAS NO CLOTHES: JOYCE M. ROCHÉ
Imposter Syndrome is a b**ch and a liar!! This book is a hard and HUGE pill to swallow, but I'm gathering my life with every read! If you''re struggling with self-doubt, this is the book for you. TRUST ME!

Around the Way GIRL will have you feeling like you're sitting down having dinner and drinks to your girlfriend! Enter into the world of Ms. Henson with this hilariously witty, empowering and down to earth book. And if you're a creep like me and love to hear her speak; cop the audiobook!
I'M JUDGING YOU: LUVVIE AJAYI
Luvvie Ajayi's I'm Judging You is refreshing at best. She says what we're ALL thinking but some times too afraid to say. Luvvie embarks on the journey of discovering self, being Christian and not holding back on expressing the judgment we all inevitably think.
THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR: NICOLA YOON
Written by the same author that inspired the recent movie Everything, Everything starring Amanda Stenberg, Nicola Yoon's The Sun Is Also A Star was one I just couldn't put down. I was completely engrossed in the worlds of two seemingly completely different characters as they embark on their own life adventures, yet life can't help but cross their paths.
I AM MALALA: MALALA YOUSAFZAI
Resistance. Resilience. Boldness. There's no other way to describe Malala Yousafzai's I Am Malala is empowering and riveting. When the Taliban took over Swat Valley, Malala fights for her right to education.
YOU'RE A BADASS. HOW TO STOP DOUBTING YOUR GREATNESS AND START LIVING AN AWESOME LIFE: JEN SINCERO
I have never been bossed up with a book in the way that You're A Badass bossed up my life. Honey listen. This is one you add to your list for annual, if not biannual reading. If you're battling doubt in any way, then this book is for you!
MILK AND HONEY: RUPI KAUR
Pain is something that we all know too well. Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey deals wth violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. This book will bless your soul!
YEAR OF YES: SHONDA RHIMES
I started 2016 with this book and I can genuinely say, it has changed my ENTIRE life. That probably sounds dramatic, but I'm serious. Shonda Rhimes writes like she's kicking with her girlfriends by the fireplace. There's sidesplitting laughter, rants and a strong desire for a glass of wine. Year of Yes is another one of those books that'll boss you up and get you right so you can face the world head on.
THE GIFTS OF IMPERFECTION: BRENE' BROWN
Okay so Brene' is deep y'all. I'm just going to put that out there. The Gifts of Imperfection is one of those self-help guides to embracing who you are.
THE QUIET ROOM: AMANDA BENNETT AND LORI SCHILLER
The Quiet Room addresses the complex life of a schizophrenic as she slips into and out of mental deterioration. The story is told in part from Lori's perspective and filled in by her loved ones in places she is unable. The emotional rollercoaster of Lori's journey out of torment and madness is one compelling story you won't want to put down.
THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING A F*CK! : MARK MANSON
The not so subtle title gives you all you need to know. Mark Manson addresses many of our greatest issues of giving a f*ck when quite frankly we shouldn't. Take the time to expose the things you care entirely too much about and learn The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck!
